on sunday, with serious help from our friend lesli (the decor would not have been nearly as epic without her!), we threw together a little belated birthday party for our newly 3 year old. her actual birthday was on the third, but seeing as matt & i had a few out of town weddings scheduled we decided to push her party back a few weeks. thankfully at this age she didn't seem to mind in the least. though she did tell everyone who said "happy birthday" that it wasn't her birthday and she had already had it. she was really quite adamant about it! so the phrase "happy birthday PARTY!" ended up being thrown around a lot that day. the kiddos made english muffin pizzas, the adults sipped mimosas, and we all went to town on a mountain of vegan doughnuts. friends, family, and food. it was simple, and it was perfect!

happy birthday (PARTY), my little bug!!!

penny: a table covered in stickers, crayons, markers, and stencils. sometimes the best days are the ones where we stay inside, in our pjs, all day long.

A portrait of my daughter once a week, every week, in 2015.

penny: with your birthday being on january 3rd, you get to begin each new year at a new age. 2015, three years old, and right off the bat you had a pretty big life lesson handed to you. our best friends dog, rhoodamis, passed away this week. you understood that he was old, and sick, and are slowly grasping the concept that he won't be back. it's a hard thing to explain to a 3 year old, life and death. while out on a walk you picked rocks for lesli and dave, and said they were to help them feel less sad.  i hope you carry that sweet compassionate heart with you through this life.
